Program Goals

Solving the increasingly important and complex problems within the constraints time, resources, environment, security, social factors, economy, and similar phenomena is an important problem encountered in the field of Civil Engineering. Although education and training provided at the undergraduate level is sufficient to introduce the basic fields of the profession to students, it is necessary to further specialize with in-depth knowledge required to tackle large projects with integrated sustainability components and to advance the technical infrastructure in parallel with technological developments. This level of training is provided at the graduate level. The aim of this program is to equip next generation of civil engineers with the skills to solve current and complex civil engineering problems with sustainable approaches and design decisions.

We aim to train a new generation of engineers required by the profession through unique courses in which the interaction of Civil Engineering know-how with design, safety, environment, ethics, economy and social issues will be examined. Our goal is to train students so that they become preferred candidates by industry, while also facilitating our graduates to find positions in the public and private sectors to advance their career. We expect our graduates to lead a cultural change in the field of Civil Engineering supported by knowledge acquired through the program.

Our graduate program includes both a thesis and a non-thesis track to appeal to student's professional preferences. The non-thesis program aims to help students improve themselves in line with their own interests and professional goals and acquire the most up-to-date technical knowledge in the field. In addition to courses taken within the scope of the program, non-thesis track students are also required to complete a comprehensive graduation project as a pre-condition of graduation. The thesis program aims to provide students with both technical knowledge and competence to conduct scientific research and publication.

Enabling students to specialize according to their interests is among the goals of the program. In addition to the thesis and non-thesis track options, a student-oriented approach has been adopted in the curriculum. A rich pool of elective courses together with innovative required courses enable students to concentrate on current issues in line with their interests.
